Early Childhood Development Changes

As from 1 April 2022 the ECD (Early Childhood Development) sector will migrate to the DBE (Department of Basic Education) from the DSD (Department of Social Development).  The spokesperson for the DBE stipulated that the change will be a positive approach to the ECD sector and delivery of quality education to learners.  It is aimed at promoting equity in terms of the delivery of the educational model.  The new process will be implemented in stages to assist ECD centers to comply with the regulations set out by DBE as well as educating staff on the online registration process of learners.  Qualifications will become mandatory  for all ECD staff and according to the DBE all educators on ECD level will have time until 2023 to tend to their qualifications on either NQF 4 or NQF 5 level.
